MORGAN, Utah — A woman was killed and an infant injured following a wrong-way crash on Interstate 84 in Morgan County early Saturday.

The woman was later identified as 23-year-old Margaret Mimnaugh from Morgan County.

The Utah Highway Patrol said the crash happened just after 7:00 a.m. approximately 5 miles northwest of Morgan.

A sedan driving west in the eastbound lanes of the road slammed into a semi-truck heading in the opposite direction, killing the woman driver.

Crews were able to safely extract an infant inside the car and transport them to Primary Children's Hospital. UHP says the Mimnaugh was the baby's mother.

It's believed the sedan made a left turn onto the off-ramp and failed to see the flashing signs that were in place to warn vehicles going in the wrong direction.

The driver of the semi did not sustain any injuries, but remained on scene and is cooperating with police.

According to UHP, the incident was the first fatal wrong-way accident of 2024 after 13 similar incidents over the previous two years.

The crash prompted a closure of the freeway, but it has since been reopened.
